FINGLAS VILLAGE
Dublin City Council commissioned HCoA to provide comprehensive plan to revitalise Finglas as a vibrant, walkable, and culturally active urban village. The project focuses on enhancing streetscapes, improving pedestrian and cycling connections, expanding green infrastructure, and creating a new cultural heart centred on the Village Triangle. Key measures include removing the pedestrian bridge to restore historic views and improve accessibility, widening pavements, increasing tree planting, reorganising traffic with a one‑way system and two‑way cycle lane, and introducing flexible public spaces for markets, events, and community use. The proposal also outlines new cultural and community facilities, upgraded public lighting and materials, and the development of landmark buildings at key village gateways, all informed by extensive community consultation.
Overall, the plan aims to reduce car dominance, strengthen Finglas’ identity and heritage, and deliver a cohesive, people‑focused public realm that supports social activity, sustainable travel, and long‑term regeneration.
